Re: Can we start to call Verlander......
Verlander has 4 years left on his deal. I believe it was a 5 yr $80M

Re: Can we start to call Verlander......
the deal verlander is on now is basically like the deal weaver just got. it obviously wouldnt make sense do anything now since there are 4 years left but yes in 2 years it would be good to lock him down a little longer if he is up for it.

Congrats to JV! Didn't have his A game but still did enough to get the win Youngest pitcher to win 20 games before Sept. Since 69' I believe. Extend him ASAP!

Re: Can we start to call Verlander......
Congrats out to JV on becoming the first 20 game winner this season and the first to win 20 by the end of August since 2002! I read somewhere that Leyland was considering giving JV either an extra day rest from now on or that he was going to have him miss a start. Hope this doesn't screw up his rhythm.

That or have the lead shrink. I don't know about you guys but when JV is not pitching I get a little scared of the pitching.

Re: Can we start to call Verlander......
Valverde could also make a case for MVP. He is the only player in all of the majors with more than 5 saves that has not blown a save.

He's having a great year too but there are so many other guys around the league, everyday players having great years too. Gonzales, Granderson, Pedroia , Elsbury etc and if they did vote for a pitcher it would be his team mate Verlander.

Re: Can we start to call Verlander......
i agree just surprised he s not getting more love. he s pitched in 63 games and will probably be at 70 games with 45 saves when its all said and done. by the games played theory, he may have an effect on more games than Verlander. ESPN has a cy young predictor which has Verlander 1st and Valverde 5th but you dont hear anyone talking about him much when he is having perhaps the second best season by a closer ever behing Eric Gagne...

22 wins for Verlander with an assist to Martinez with a Grand Slam in the 7th.

Sometimes you just got to be lucky. I'm sure JV is buying VMart dinner tonight.
