Speed-of-light experiments give baffling result at Cern
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-15017484I love how this is approached by the scientist and the news. This is exactly how I think seemingly new discoveries should be protrayed and accepted by the scientific community and the news. Notice how the scientist seemingly have enough evidence to call it a "discovery" yet are cautious about their findings at first. We find a tooth and reconstruct a whole skeleton and lifestyle without much more than one scientist opinion... glad to see scientist following the process and the media for not reporting this as more than what it is.

I find it quite humorous how you hold science to certain standards that are a complete 180 to the standards you require in other aspects of your life - even when both are trying to explain the same thing. I guess scientist have to live by one set of standards, why you live by two. (sorry, couldn't resist)

You are right, I don't require a peer-reviewed paper to choose my toilet paper. If that is double standard then call me the king of double standards.

The Burger "King" is just soooo wrong. If you look at the hands and the legs in the commercials, it is painfully obvious that the "King" is a woman That's just wrong. LOL.

But is it accepted through proof and data... your input for Cottenelle is equivalent to what it takes to "discover" a new missing link...

So I brought this up at a dinner party and a nuclear engineering major says they found a flaw in their research and didn't account for some.sort if relativity that went way over my head... Anyone hear anything like that?

Anyone hear anything like that? Yeah I saw something similar in an article. Basically it had something to do with how the timing was actually measured, and that they use a combination of sensors on the ground and satellites. Since some of the measurement is done from space, there is a relativity adjustment that has to be made, and when they found this it turns out that it almost exactly matches the amount of time the particles were exceeding the speed of light. So, it seems to match and the theory of relativity still holds.
