Post Bears fire GM
Angelo joining the Polians (Indy) on the unemployment line...

AP wrote:
Jerry Angelo Fired as Bears' GM

Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo has been fired following a team collapse marked by injuries to Jay Cutler and Matt Forte and a drug scandal involving receiver Sam Hurd.

Tuesday's announcement ends Angelo's 11-year reign in which the Bears reached one Super Bowl and advanced to another NFC championship game. He leaves with a questionable draft record and an inability to fill glaring holes, particularly on offense.

His dismissal comes after an erratic season in which the Bears finished 8-8 after looking at one point like a playoff lock. A five-game losing streak spoiled a 7-3 start and kept Chicago out of the playoffs for the fourth time in five years.

Hey Millen is available to go with Martz and Marinelli....

Damn! Angelo has been positively Millen-esque--he's been bailed out all these years by Lovie doing a tremendous job with sub-par talent. Here's hoping they don't get somebody good--we already play in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL.

God Bless George McCaskey!

Angelo had a few decent early drafts... and then the wheels came off around 2007 and the team now has some good older probowler pieces, but no depth or WRs.

Rumor that Bill Pollian (not the son) is a candidate, as is Reggie McKenzie from Good Bay.

Good luck in the playoff, Lions - pulling for you!

I wonder if Shak-Harris will draw any interest from teams looking for a new GM?

Thats not what I have heard...there is a ton of talk about drafting a rb. If they're smart they resign him. but with no one in the front office yet who knows if they'll be smart

I actually expected McCaskey to get fired when Cutler went down and he refused to sign a veteran. Opting instead to stick it out with Caleb Haney. To me, that was jaw dropping stupidity and arrogance.

After a game or 2 I agree with you. Haney had a pretty good game in the playoffs last year when Cutler went down and looked like a capable backup. But after 2 games of 3 picks, they needed to find a replacement and never did. to me the biggest error of all was not getting Cutler a WR to throw to. there were several decent WR's in free aganecy this year (Rice, Plax, to name a few) and they come to town with Roy???? they should know what to expect from him, how could they possibly think he was an answer. (and Roy did cost them a game but givinng away a pick i the endzone in a game they lost by 3. THIS is what was inexcusable in my mind. You pay all that (money and draft picks) to a good qb and not only do you not get any quality weapons for him to throw to, but you remove one in Olsen, who has had a very solid year in Carolina.

The McCaskeys own the Bears, so that would be like the Lions firing a Ford. :D The Bears' GM was Jerry Angelo.

Mike Tice is moving on up.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports Tice, the Bears’ offensive line coach, will be promoted to offensive coordinator for the first time in his career. Glazer’s news comes directly on the heels of news that Tice would “interview” for the job, but it sounds like the decision has already been made.

Glazer rights that Tice will be paired with a “passing game” coach, with Tice in charge of the running game and holding the coordinator title. Tice will call the plays. The Bears reportedly want a “ground-based” approach which sounds like good news for Matt Forte.

It was believed that Tice gained more influence last season at the expense of former coordinator Mike Martz. He’s never been a coordinator, but the Bears blocked his chance to interview for a coordinator’s job in Tennessee last year.

That move indicated they had bigger plans for Tice. Now they are making it happen.

UPDATE 11:40 a.m. ET: The Bears officially confirmed the news.

Da bears did promote mike tice to OC from OL coach.

They didn't even interview, they just named him OC. Kind of strange without a GM in place. It seems like the next GM won't have a lot of control over the coaching staff much at all.
