Yep. It certainly looks like I'll be on the board soon.

JoPa passed away this morning:

Joe Paterno, 85, dies in State College

Joe Paterno has died at the age of 85 after experiencing serious complications from lung-cancer treatment.

The health of Paterno, who had fought the disease for two months, had grown progressively worse after he recently broke his pelvis in a fall at his home in State College, Pa.

The family announced his death Sunday shortly after 10 a.m. ET., The Associated Press reported.

Paterno died at State College's Mount Nittany Medical Center, where he had been undergoing treatment.

Not to sound cruel, but celebs have been dropping like flies so far this year and the points are accumulating fast. BillySims has now gotten on the board, while fetumpsh has added to his point total. The current standings are:

slybri19 = 55
fetumpsh = 42
BillySims = 15
mwill2 = 0
regularjoe12 = 0

I only picked JoPa because I looked at him as a Bear Bryant clone. When football was gone, so were they.
Both died within mere months of their coaching career ending.

I thought about taking Paterno, as well as Castro and the Pope. But then I came up with a new strategy of not selecting anyone over 80. I decided to go with quality (higher points) over quantity (many older deaths). That appears to be the winning formula for past Celebrity Death Pool champions in much larger and active pools.

As luck would have it, four people had Whitney Houston in the other Death Pool I play in. I'm still tied for 3rd place out of about 150 though.

It's a sad day for baseball fans:

Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter dies at 57
By BEN WALKER, AP

NEW YORK (AP) — In a rough-and-tumble clubhouse filled with dark secrets and constant conflict, there was always one sunny stall.

Those New York Mets could count on Gary Carter to deliver - a smile, a spark and ultimately a championship.

The effervescent Hall of Fame catcher whose single for the Mets in the 1986 World Series touched off one of the most improbable rallies in baseball, died Thursday. The Kid was 57.

Carter was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor last May, two weeks after finishing his second season as coach at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz said Carter died at a hospice in the West Palm Beach, Fla., area.

This pushes me up to 98 points and it's not even the end of February yet.
