There is a chance, according to a PFT story http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/02/20/hutchinson-knows-the-vikings-may-cut-him/ that the Vikings will cut Hutchinson. Should the Lions consider him in FA?

He is only a shell of his former self.

I think that's a bit rough to say. I think he's still better than some other guards out there, and you can't expect him to play at age 35 the way he was able to at age 27. Also, I think he's been overworked in Minnesota lately because he's been expected to pick up the slack for McKinnie and Johnson last year. However, that said I think he'll expect WAAAAY too much money, and therefore I said "NO".

I wanted to say "maybe" and give the same old "at the right cost" argument, but as I've said before, I think that's a silly argument. I think he's going to get more than $4-5 million dollars per season, and IMO that prices him out of our price range. It seems especially silly when Kontz is likely to be there, he's starting caliber material right now, and he'll cost something like $2 million next year with his rookie salary and SB combined.

I think I would pass. I'd much rather get a good young OG than someone who only has a couple years left and would cost more than the Lions can afford right now. They need to get younger on the OL, not older.

Anytime I see these topics I ask myself:

Would this topic exist if said player wasn't a (Michigan native/UM alumn/MSU alumn)?

If the answer is no, then I say no on the player.

MSU?! WTF? j/k...... If Hutch is cut I fully expect him to retire. He has plenty of cash, he loves Minnesota and N. Michigan. He's a real big outdoors guy, hunting, fishing, etc.

I don't know how old this show was but I saw him on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Hutch and his wife eating smoked Whitefish and pounding some suds.

Anyway I think he would be happy to keep doing that kind of stuff.

BTW, we were looking to draft Hutch but got the poopy end of the stick and took his line partner Backus, also from U of M.

Of course they do. That's why people are asking about him. But the fact that he hasn't been to a pro bowl in 2 years also means something. He's 34 years old, and on the down side of his career. He probably is not an upgrade over what the team currently has at this point, so I'd say no.

I was just referring to the whole "because he's a former U of M grad" statement.

In regards to him not being an upgrade, I would agree. I think he can outplay Peterman, but the salary Hutch will want will be more than what Peterman is making, so it's pretty much a wash. Add to that the fact that Hutch would be a one or two year plug in and it wouldn't make good business sense. I'd personally prefer they just re-sign Leonard Davis than sign Hutch.
