Re: Lids & Holland press conference tomorrow at 11EST
After last season I really don't think it will hurt us that much getting rid of him. It will free up $7.5 million dollars of cap space to use in the off-season to replace his talent, and he petered out in the playoffs anyhow.
Like I said, Shea Webber or bust should have been our goal last offseason. We had enough young talent, AND the cap space to get it done. If you took Webber off of Nashville and put him on the Wings, we likely would have won the Cup. Holland screwed the pooch on that one.

He's been the Red Wings' captain since 2006 when Steve Yzerman retired. Lidstrom is expected to address his reasons for retirement at age 42. He told a Swedish newspaper that he just didn't have enough left in the tank for another season. Lidstrom was a seven-time Norris Trophy winner and won four Stanley Cups with the Red Wings. He won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2002 and holds numerous NHL and Red Wings franchise records. Lidstrom will address the media at 11 a.m. at Joe Louis Arena, and Fox Sports Detroit will carry it live. Check out the video below: http://www.foxsportsdetroit.com/pages/v ... zO7E_JcdLAhttp://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf ... cklas.html Thanks Nicklas for everything! It was a pleasure watching you for 20 years. Congrats on a great career and being able to leave on your terms. Go Wings!

Patrick Roy officially announced his retirement on May 28, 2003, which was in between Games 1 & 2 of the Stanley Cup finals that year between the Devils and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (what the team was called then). The first 2 games were in New Jersey and, of course, that was the last year the Devils were in the Cup finals. http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/id/1 ... trom-facts

You don't cut lidstorm to sign weber any day of the week. No GM would do that.
