The best that never won a thing
Some friends and I were discussing "the best to never have won a ring".
Obviously at Rb Barry wins hands down. For QB we had a nice long Marino Vs. Kelly debate.
The Stumper we had, and the question I pose to you guys is: WHo is the best WR to never have won a ring. IMO it was ALMOST Moss, but he got one in NE, so who does that leave?
Im thinkin Reed or Monk from the early 90's ....what are your thoughts?

Moss didn't win a ring in NE. They went undefeated and lost to the Giants. The Patriots haven't won since 2005 and he was traded to the Pats in 2007.

Re: The best that never won a thing
Given the way the passing game has evolved, you gotta look pretty recently for the most part and look at guys like Moss, TO, Fitzgerald, and Andre Johnson. Going back just a bit further you've got guys like Chris Carter, Andre Reed, and Herman Moore.
Honestly, I wouldn't say Reed or Monk rank ahead of someone like Moss. I'd put Monk ahead of Reed but alongside guys like Steve Largent who had long, productive careers.
I'd take Moss, or TO, or Carter ahead of them right now and Fitz as soon as he retires.

Good call with Tim brown. We completely overlooked him when we were talking about this earlier.

Re: The best that never won a thing
It's either Barry Sanders or Dan Marino, you got that right.
As for WR.... it's gotta be Randy Moss. Did Don Hutson ever win it all? He played with the Packers in the early days so I assume he won a championship (Super Bowls didn't exist yet), so if not, my vote is for Hutson. If so, I'd vote Randy Moss.
Good call on Reed or Monk though. I'd throw in Chris Carter & TO for good measure.

Wasn't Owens on a Superbowl winning team in SF? I could have sworn he was under Mariucci.

Re: The best that never won a thing
Mariucci's 9ers never even got to the super bowl. They had great seasons but lost to Packers in Championship game, Falcons in Division game, missed playoffs twice, made it back but then lost to Packers again. Mooch's last season they won that wild card game to Giants on the fubbed FG that should have been pass interference call, but lost to the Bucs. TO was then traded in 04. TO's only shot at the Super Bowl was with the Eagles, which he blamed on McNabb.

Owens showed up after the 94-95 season, the last 49ers Super Bowl season. njroar wrote: Mariucci's 9ers never even got to the super bowl. That's why the last flag was picked up. The initial getting rid of TO started after a 49ers loss to the Packers in 2003, in the infamous plane-ride home where TO was screaming and ranting on his cell phone to his manager, with his repeated "GET ME OFF THIS F***ING TEAM" line, so all players and coaches could hear it. The trade deadline had passed, but the discussions started around that time... God I hated that sob. He would score touchdowns, and I would sit back sigh... "............. yeahhhh............." A great WR though. Unstoppable in the open field in his prime. MVP of the Super Bowl if the Eagles had won.

Re: The best that never won a thing
I would disagree Chris Carter would rank above moss.....BUT which primadona would you rank higher? T.O.? Or Randy "I wouldn't feed this to my dog" Moss?
Personally i'd go with Moss....But I've watched him a lot more than I have of T.O.
