Kevin Barnes is a step above Alfonso Smith, whom I think now will be released. I have a feeling the Lions will keep Justin Miller, given his solid kick returns against Oakland, and will likely keep Jacob Lacey, who was inconsistent but was better than Smith. Along with Bentley and Houston, Barnes gives us our fifth CB on the roster. Jonte Green gets waived then put on PS.

He was their 3rd CB last season, and I agree he jumps above Smith, Lacy and Miller. He also played some safety in Washington, so wouldn't surprise me if he pushes Spievey. We haven't heard anything about Houston and Bently's injuries, so he definitely gives some depth, but if everyone's healthy, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets some time in practice at safety is Delmas doesn't return quick.

he is coming in hear to compete for the starting rcb position with lacy and bentley.and by going over his tape from this preseason he has played very well and in my opinion clearly out played griffen.its clear washington kept griffen because of the contract as well as keeping hall as there nickle because of his contract and then there rookie was there 4th corner making him to expensive to keep as there 5th corner.we sent them a 7th rd pick because there were atleast 8 teams ahead of us waiting to snatch him off the waiver wire.

yeah, i just watched all 3 preseason games for Washington and he played well. He made one mistake which was a missed tackle in the 4th quarter of the 3rd game. He played special teams as well, so I think he'll be a good pickup. Not bad for a 7th.

Nick Harris got cut by Jacksonville. If you ask me, it's time to end the Donahue experiment and bring NH back for the vet minimum.

It sounds like he's a good pickup. But is he really that good? Would he replace Peterman at guard if he were healthy? Why was he a 7th round pick if he's that good?

Scouting isn't a perfect science. You can't predict every single player's desire to actually play. Travis Lewis was a 7th. Willie Young was a 7th. Some are just seen as needing time and some teams don't have the ability to wait. Some reach that potential much sooner than expected.

Lions traded for CB Kevin Barnes Mon and may not be deal dealing. Teams say Detroit GM Martin Mayhew making calls looking for a RB

I'm assuming the deal before dealing is done. But looks like there might be a deal done sometime before start of the season.

Post Report: Lions trying to trade for running back
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... ning-back/

Quote:
The news suggests that the Lions don’t have any interest in running backs on the open market like Kahlil Bell and Ryan Grant, although Mayhew may be pursuing multiple avenues in hopes of getting another body onto the roster. Names like Knowshon Moreno and Chris Ivory come to mind as trade options since they appear to have fallen out of favor in Denver and New Orleans, respectively. Some Lions fans will likely want to add Maurice Jones-Drew to the list, but there’s no sign that the Jaguars are planning to deal him.
