I was also screaming at the refs on the Tulloch penalty. They gave the Titans an extra 12 yards on that play! WTF

It should have been enforced from the Tennessee 44 and got them the ball at our 41. Instead it was enforced at our 44 and they got it at our 29.

Anybody watching the press conference?? Raiola snapped the ball when he wasn't supposed to. They were trying to draw the Titans offsides and then call the TO and kick it if they didn't get the penalty. When the heck are we going to replace him?

You are sh*tting me?

Meh, the refs botched it both ways at times (CJ reception overturned because he dropped it out of bounds thanks to helmet to helmet that got ignored, for one example). I reckon overall the Titans got the better rub of the green. But what I am sure about is that this is not the kind of game where we should be able to allow the refs to have an influence if we are the kind of team we think we are (or, at least, I thought we were!).

Right now, I should be thinking: oh f*ck, Stafford's hurt. Is it bad? Will he be back next week?

But I am not. Not a good start to the season, Matt.

(oh and Martz: as unimpressed with Stafford as I have been, if you call him Matthew in a crazy patronizing "oh I am glad the Lions are losing" kind of way again I will book a flight, learn kung fu on that flight and kick seven bells of sh*t out of you when I land).

I need to drink and post less. Especially when I have work the next day. Night night all.

Ha, find I do the same. But I love my Sunday afternoons, however the game goes, it is still what I look forward to on the weekends.

But as for the end of the game... how does Dom screw up a play like that?? If he knows they are simply trying to draw off the titans but are going to call a time out, why would he snap? Did Hill accidentally change the calls? Or did Dom just make a mental error. Something here is still not adding up.

I honestly can't wait until Cliff Avril is released. He's done NOTHING throughout the first 3 games and is a complete waste of $10.6 million. We played a tough offensive line, no doubt, but that's no excuse for a defensive line being paid a total of more than $20 million getting barely any pressure all game long. We might as well drop Corey Williams and Cliff Avril and go hard for FAs for the secondary, and trade if needed.

Special teams was a joke. We really need Delmas back and have to pick up a good strong safety next free agency or draft one first and foremost. Lots of disputable calls, and an overall ugly game. We need to get on track against Minnesota next week, or this season will be like the Eagles' last year; so much potential, but the record books don't show it.

cant blame refs guys. this team is exactly what everyone in the national media have viewed it as all along. young, immature, undisciplined and dont think the rules or attention to detail matter to them. they think they ve won when they are losing or tied. it is a poorly coached team with a lot of talent. this was a bad loss no way to sugar coat it. They can either learn from this and let this be the end of that nonsense or they can just be happy knowing that they have a lot of talent.

Notes

- when everyone is good and healthy the starting Safeties will be Spievey and Delmas. Coleman returned to form and was absolutely brutal today. Wendling provided a little lift over him but Delmas needs to be back.
- who was saying that special teams have been good? I think it was UK LIon - please knock on some wood next time. Danny Crossman should be fired tomorrow morning. I dont care that Hanson nailed the long kicks or that we got the onside kick - Hanson s known how to play for a long time. The rest of the coverage guys dont work well as a unit.
- Jacob Lacey - posterized. Where is your football awareness. I dont even know how that catch by Washington was possible. Even the slightest amount of awareness would have prevented a completion let alone a TD. Didnt help that Wendling tried jumping the route and was way late. Secure the tackle man.
- DL where is the pass rush? If you are going to go offsides multiple times on 3rd downs you better be getting some pressure?
- SCott Linehan? What the heck are you doing with the backs? LeShoure looks good but then you overwork him to the point of predictability than he gets benched for Joique Bell in OT? Why isnt Kevin Smith splitting some reps to get a little different look?
- LeShoure looked powerful but when you run it 26 times and have a long run of 12 and an avg of 3.8 behind good blocking it means he s not good enough at making people miss. How do you not get that first down on the pass play in OT?
- Brandon Pettigrew - dropped two easy passes, missed one w a level of difficulty, essentially no ability to get yards after catch, terrible holding penalty and slightly above average blocking. Just bc he gets a lot of targets doesnt mean he is good. This is an unreliable player.
- Stafford and Graham - those injuries looked awfully similar at least Hanson tries to make a tackle though he got pancaked. Not as bad as Jonte Green though.
- Never ever give an opponent that many gifts in OT. 2 Personal fouls, both blatant. Def Holding on 3rd down. TEN looked a little shell shocked there w neg runs and false starts, etc. Why bail them out over and over.
- Coaching - good decision to go for the win but horrid play call and why not call a timeout or call a real play. A hurried QB sneak w a backup QB just thrown into a wild game didnt make a lot of sense. Clearly there was some problem where Raiola snapped it before Hill was ready.

I hate Sunday's and this is why, these lions piss me off to the max! Stupid play call at the end there, tied it up and i thought we would win (like a little kid in a candy store). Defense is sh!t it's hard to watch most of the time.

schwartz said in the press conference that the plan was to lineup and try to draw the offsides then use a timeout. didnt say if they would kick or go for it with a different play. said there was a miscommunication probably because the crowd was loud. pathetic and not sure if i even believe it. dont the QBs have a helmet radio that they hear the coaches with?

They can hear the play as they get in huddle, as they approach line it gets turned off automatically. Coaches can't tell you who's open during a play for example. It's dead long before the snap is called.

This was just a crazy day. They scored 5 TD's on plays over 60 yards. They needed a miracle to win and they got it.

um, i know that they arent hearing from the coach during the play and the LOS but what does that have to do with anything i wrote? schwartz is saying the lions offense did something completely different than what the coaching staff was communicating to them to do. all way presnap, schwartz doesnt know what timeouts are for? awful explanation by him on an awful game.

it wasnt a miracle by TEN it was garbage play by the Lions allowing the loss to happen. Extending OT drives with penalties, bailing out negative yard runs, not holding outside contain on kick coverage, offsides on mult 3rd down plays all game...poorly coached, no discipline

This sums it up pretty good.

But to add a few things:

Id love to know why this front 4 gets the attention it does because every QB we've faced this year has had no problem sitting in the pocket waiting for an open guy down field. I understand we get a sack here and there, but why cant we create pressure like the Packers did against Chicago last week? Like NYG do all the time? etc I hate Joe Staley and Anthony Davis, but man, lets prove them wrong by not just saying we're a great D-line, but lets get in there and make the QB scream for help! Where is the pressure? Especially from this so-called dominant D-line?

Like every week's game recap, gotta mention the need for 2 safeties.

I question the playcalling also. When we get in panic mode at the end, we move the ball. Why cant we do that all game?

Pettigrew?? You are a joke. And dont nobody use the words "shows flashes", because those days are over. This is 2012, not 2009 in his rookie year. Its time to produce. Its time to catch the damn ball and fight for yardage. And once you get those yards, HOLD. ON. TO. THE. BALL! (got that typing from M2k  ). Seriously though.

And other than the crazy play at the end of regulation, where it Titus Young? With such a great end to last season, I would have thought he would be having a great 2nd year. WRONG. Sure, he had a few catches today which is more than the last few weeks, but where's this guys big play ability? Why isnt he being stretched downfield? If we're just gonna dink and dunk with him, why not just stick Broyles in there on some plays? At least he aint a punk and wont make stupid decisions (that we know of).

I honestly believe this team is better overall this year than last year, but so far this whole team looks like its regressed rather than progressed.

And i sure as heck dont want to start a post-draft debate, but Mark Barron sure would be a big help right about now.

We should have destroyed this team today. Literally. We play Minnesota next week, who is 3-0 and just beat San Fran, who we couldnt do anything against offensively last week. This team has got to step it up about 9 or 10 notches. Cuz I got news for you Lions, you play arguably the best RB in the game next week, and a second year QB who had a great game today against the best D in the game. Wake up!
