As far as going for it: I will never fault a coach for trying to win it outright. I was saying go for it at the moment. I would be a hypocrite if I chastise him for it now.
If there are any goats from the game they would be:

ST's just stink. Why are we the only team that just can't get ST's right.

Petigrew needs his butt kicked for letting his pocket get picked.

Raiola completely screwed the pooch on the most important play of the game. Bad time to have a brain fart.

Here's the problem I have with the bolded statement....they DID NOT GO FOR IT!! Schwartz was trying to get a freebie and draw the Titans off sides. He brought in a cutesie play at a critical time in the game, and he should have known better. Why? Because he pulled the same cutesie crap in the Jets game a couple seasons ago and that one bit him on the butt too.

You don't screw around with the game on the line. They should have either flat out gone for it, or they should have just kicked the damn ball. They should NOT have gotten cute at that time.

Also, if he was going to pull that play, he should have called time out and discussed it with the players on the sidelines.

Schwartz screwed the pooch on that one.

What is so cutesie about trying to draw the defense off sides? Teams do it frequently. Why? Because sometimes it works. When it don't, you call time out and decide what to do next. But, that requires your center to have more intelligence than a rotted stump. I guess we gave Raiola too much credit.

Even if the point was to try to draw the d offsides, the whole process should have been slowed down. no way should they have lined up without making sure everyone knew their job. They didn't. it was rushed and Dom didnt know his assignment...his fault ? yes...but to say it's not the coaches fault for making sure everyone is on the same page for a play THIS important is silly IMO.

Dare I say it, is it time to start asking whether or not we might be better off with a different coaching staff, at least as far as defensive coordinator, offensive coordinator, and special teams goes? I'd say the D & ST needs some reconsidering. I think the O is fine

I think this whole thread is premature. We are only 3 weeks into the season. Let it grow and see where we are at the end of the year. Then have this discussion.

LOL So in this thread you say they're only 3weeks in and its 'premature', but in another you say if they don't win this week the entire season is over...um what? ](*,)

generally I'd agree but I have NOT been a fan of the offensive game plan for the past 2 weeks. we are a pass to set up the run team, but the past 2 weeks we have been trying to force the run to set up the pass. Thats just not how we are built and the offense has shown this. I'm all for runing the ball...but does it HAVE to be on every first down? thats really getting predictable (6 quarters off football were like that. up untill the 2nd 1/2 of the Tenn game)

Yes. Right now we are dealing with where we are. In that thread, we are dealing with where we would be if we lose our next game. Plenty of teams have made the playoffs after starting 1-2. Making the playoffs after starting 1-3? Not so much.

edited to add:

And notice that I expect us to win this weeks game.

At this point (end of 3rd quarter, Lions down 6-20), why not just toss the entire coaching staff and start anew?

I guess we miss Best more than we realized. That's what keeps those safeties honest. Today on the broadcast they said we're like 6-10 since the 5 game winning streak to start last season. Best when out in game 6--just sayin'.

...and so did linehan's creativity. We haven't seen that in almost a year.

Oh, and apparently a generic cover 2 is some new defense that linehan's has never seen

Not ready to give up on Schwartz just yet, but if a few things don't happen, the wonder if signing him to an extension was the best move"

1.) Crossman is done... has to go. The play of our ST this year ( and last year) cannot continue one more game.

2.) Linhean is on a short leash. He has a QB with talent, the best WR in the game, and a pretty decent supporting cast of WR's and TE's. Lacking a good running game...well.. the Pats found a way to manage and win a SB.

3.) Gunther gets a bit of a pass, sort of. Secondary is a shamble, but the LB core is fighting at it's weight. Really need to see more from the Dline that everybody keeps talking about. The vikes kept us contained today with a 4 man front, isn't that what we are supposed to be able to do too?

Right now we seem to have the talent, so I can only assume it is on the coaching and the schemes. The lions are on the teetering point where the dead weight needs to be ejected.

Gun's fine right now. Defense gave up 2 FGs. This is all on Crossman and Linehan.

This was my original point. For years we've had a roster full of practice squad players but it seems now (except for the secondary) we have an above average roster - yet we can't seem to put it together.

If you don't have a running game and an O-Line that demands respect, you get Cover 2 to take your passing game away.

Teams have figured the Lions out,,,

1) Take away Calvin with 2 deep safety coverage
2) Dare the Lions to run
3) Make the Lions kick it to us
4) Score
5) Rinse and repeat as necessary

I think we owe it to Schwartz to give him a chance. Please get a new staff though! Linehan was good last year but why doesnt he take some chances and let maybe the strongest arm in the league chuck it down the field?? GO GET AN ELITE PLAYCALLER!! Id love to have a Sean Payton Mike McCarthy type of playcaller, easier said than done but find someone creative. Cunningham IMO has never really impressed me. Get Mike Nolan next YR!! The dude makes any defense look sweet and has had like 7 teams in 8 years. I know he is a 3-4 guy, I prefer 4-3 however suh and fairley could play DE and SLH on the nose and Levy and Tulloch could play inside... Still have pieces missing but we have missing pieces now. Obviously ST coach is needed ASAP!

I remember Lovie Smith was in hot water and was forced to change his staff, something like that IS needed IMO
