 Bill Bentley put on IR
the hits in the secondary keep coming.... MLive wrote: Detroit Lions CB Bill Bentley placed on IR; team re-signs Don Carey
ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions have placed rookie cornerback Bill Bentley on injured reserve because of his hurt shoulder.
As a result, Detroit has re-signed safety Don Carey.
Bentley was a third-round draft pick by Detroit this season and supposed to replace Eric Wright, who signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent. Lions cornerback Alphonso Smith entered training camp as the number one right cornerback, but Bentley took over that spot within a few days.
However, Bentley was unable to avoid injuries in his first NFL season.
Bentley sustained a concussion in Week 1 against the St. Louis Rams. That injury forced him to miss Detroit's next game against the San Francisco 49ers, but he returned the following week against Tennessee. Bentley starter against Minnesota and injured his shoulder against the Philadelphia Eagles on October 14.
He finishes this season with 15 tackles.
Lions coach Jim Schwartz was asked about safety Louis Delmas and Bentley's long-term health yesterday, and he said both players were day-to-day.
"Both of them are probably the same," Schwartz said. "Both of them are day-to-day, and they're battling through some things that they're working. Bentley's shoulders and Louis' knees."
Carey, a Grand Rapids native, was waived/injured due to a hamstring injury this past August. He signed with the Lions in October last year after being cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars prior to the start of the season. He appeared in five games for the Lions, seeing limited action as a cornerback.

Too bad we weren't able to see much of anything from this kid. I had high hopes, but the injury bug bit him hard. I'm afraid this'll be another Lou Delmas situation, where the talent is there to be a good starter in the league, but their inability to stay healthy is going to continually hamper them throughout their careers.

It was a shoulder issue just like with Berry, Houston, and A. Smith. That's the reason Gun gave for drafting bigger corners like Greenwood and J. Green--the smaller guys just get banged up too easily tackling big receivers.

Re: Bill Benley put on IR
Seriously, one injury and you're calling him injury prone like delmas? Why not call CJ injury prone like delmas too?

Re: Bill Benley put on IR
This might be the best thing for him, actually. He got his feet wet a bit. Now he can come back next year healthy and with some experience under his belt.

Chiefs just cut Stanford Routt. Didn't want to start a new thread for him. We should bring him in ASAP.

He can't cover to save his life. And that's the reason he leads the league in Pass Interference penalties since he has been in the league.

PFT wrote: Report: Three teams showing interest in Stanford RouttPosted by Evan Silva on November 8, 2012, 8:01 AM EST Florio reported Wednesday that former Chiefs cornerback Stanford Routt has cleared waivers, thus making him an unrestricted free agent available to the highest bidder. Routt shouldn’t be counting on many high-dollar bids, but he is generating some interest on the open market already. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports Routt has received feelers from the Dolphins, Cardinals, and Lions. Miami, Arizona, and Detroit are cornerback-needy teams. The Fins just lost starter Richard Marshall to injured reserve. The Cards have struggled at the corner spot opposite Patrick Peterson. Detroit has been perhaps the league’s most injury-ravaged team in the secondary. Routt’s recent game film isn’t impressive, but he’s only 29 years old and possesses an impressive size-speed package. He’s likely to find a new team soon. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... ord-routt/ Looks like the Lion's might be interested in him. Oh, and I found more info here, after a quick search --> viewtopic.php?f=4&t=15616&hilit=routt
