This isn't surprising at all. The Lions play in a division with 3 teams that were all in the playoff picture last year with CHI and MIN going 10-6 and GB going 11-5. Kinda hard not to get a tough strength of schedule with a 3rd of your games going against playoff teams before you even get to the rotational part of the schedule.

I expect the Bears to have at least one rebuilding year. I think you have to consider Minny last season as a fluke until they get their QB situation sorted out.

They are an 8-10 win team with Joey Harrington at the helm. THAT'S how you build a team.

Two fold, IMO: 1) I think it's the team more than the coach; and 2) Minny is a cheap organization, but they're smart, IMO. Perhaps they don't want to give a big extension to someone when they have them under contract, and they're not "proven" yet. We hand out extensions like candy. Mayhew's was NOT deserved.

Re: Lions tied for 2nd toughest strength of schedule in 2013
Adrian Peterson started all 16 games for the Vikings last year. That is why they went 10-6. They also played an easy schedule, with their wins including such powerhouses as the Cardinals, Jaguars, Titans, Rams and of course the Lions (twice).
Building your team around a RB (which the Vikings have done) is more dangerous than a QB. Peterson will inevitably get hurt and sit out a few games next season, and the Vikings will finish around .500.

I would argue that the Vikings aren't just built around their RB, but also their defense, that's why I think they're built right, and they're going into the draft with two first round draft picks, already having a solid team. They're going to be good for years to come. They're set up for sustainability, even in a smaller market that doesn't spend all of its cap money year after year.

The Vikings defense isn't going to win them any games, it's a middle of the road defense. They are built entirely around AP, if he goes down that entire offense falls apart. Ponder can't win games with his arm even if they can improve their WR corps. Even their defense is starting to show a lot of holes this off season with only Greenway at LB and Winfield gone now, if Allen has a bad year or gets hurt that defense most likely crumbles. The Vikings are not built that well, they are a shaky team that went 3-13 in 2011 and then went to the playoffs because of a career year from AP.
