4.36 40, Was Paired with Jonathan Banks his more popular Cohort, but many analysts after watching the videos thought he was better than Banks.

Most Underrated Prospects
Darius Slay, CB, Mississippi State

Reason undervalued: Overshadowed by a more highly touted player at the same position

Johnthan Banks started the draft season as the more well regarded of the Mississippi State cornerbacks, but there are many reasons to think that Slay is actually the better pro prospect.

It starts with his far superior metrics. As noted in a January ESPN Insider article on the college players who will be most difficult to replace, "In the Bulldogs' nine games against BCS conference foes, Banks was targeted for 20 passes and allowed 12 completions for 229 yards and three touchdowns. That equates to an unacceptable 11.5 YPA -- and none of those throws were intercepted. By contrast, Slay was targeted 26 times in those same contests and allowed eight completions for 143 yards (5.5 YPA) and two touchdowns while generating two interceptions. It is also worth noting that Slay, not Banks, led Mississippi State in picks in 2011."

Slay is not quite as tall or experienced as Banks, yet he still got the highest possible rating from Scouts Inc. in the areas of durability and height-weight-speed. He is a player who could be available in Round 3 and could give the team that selects him production of second- or first-round caliber.

I think this was a very good pick and was my preference of the available CBs. I would ve maybe considered Carradine or Keenan Allen but one is recovering from surgery and Allen with questionable drug use.

I'm confused?? There was two better guys that fit our taller approach to the position.

I dont know what to think of the pick. If he is better than our 3 we drafted last year, then that makes me a little happier, but I was hoping for Alex Okafor to fill our other DE spot.

Time will tell.

okafor is probably a 3rd rd pick so he may still be in the plans. the 3 corners we got last year were either injured, not good or both - I think Slay is better. bentley should be a slot player. greenwood needs development time and jonte green might not be worth developing.

I agree. Slay will end up being our #2 and eventually our #1 likely someday unless we take another top Corner. He has what we need.

Bently is quality but based on size should be a Nickel CB. Jonte Green is fine as a Dime/4th CB.

ANd I think Greenwood as our 5th, and potentially eventually transferring to Safety might be a good fit.

Who were you thinking? Slay has been moving up boards for a while now.

This is another wait and see pick that I'm torn on. I like him and his potential but I think he falls into this group of CBs that goes about 6 deep or so that are fairly comparable and one would have likely been there in the 3rd.

Impressive measurables and flew under the radar due to the notoriety that Banks received. Could be a steal or could be someone's bus ticket out of town. You get the feeling that Mayhew and Schwartz are willing to gamble to go all in with high risk/high reward players right now. You don't win anything playing it conservative so I'm on board.

Think I'd rather have taken Banks or waited til the third for Alford. CB and DE are deep this draft and I think we could have traded down and still gotten quality players.

Slay > Banks based on actual Stats, even when targetted more.

Banks is going to have trouble running with NFL receivers. He needs to be in a Zone scheme.
