Post Should the Lions Sign WR Brandon Lloyd (on the cheap)?
I have been doing a little research into this guy, and supposedly he is a pretty good wide receiver (and instant #2 on our team)...but...he's supposed to be somewhat of a head case and alleged locker room cancer. Should the Lions give him a chance, hope that Broyles pans out, or hope to get someone off the street?

Quote from a Buffalo Bills forum:

Quote:
Lloyd his the following

1. Mercurial personality
2. Bipolar tendancies
2. Happy go-luck one moment…
3. Surly and moody the next…
4. Unpopular guy in the locker room…

Okay. Refresh my memory. How exactly does that seperate him from 99.5% of wide receivers in the league?

From another article, it sounds like the Patriots don't have much in the wide receiver area but still cut him (primarily for salary cap reasons). Still, that doesn't sound good.

Quote:
Odds are against Brandon Lloyd’s $3 million option bonus being picked up. There is still a lot of internal debate about what to do considering the Patriots literally couldn’t line up tomorrow at receiver. Lloyd’s erratic behavior in the locker room and on the practice field proved tiresome, according to a league and team source. If they cut Lloyd, that would save the Patriots $4.9 million against the cap this season, though there will be $2 million in dead money that can be spread out over two years. The team was smart to build in protection with Lloyd.

Lions got rid of one head case, don't think they need another.

When is the last time he actually produced consistently? Not anytime recently, that's for sure

I wouldn't want Lloyd. He has a good year followed by poor year. He makes the tough catches and drops the easy ones. There's a reason he's bounced around so much.

Jason LaCanfora tweeted out that the Lions are getting a jump on cuts and calling around about a starting quality WR, so better chances of us trading for one than grabbing Lloyd.

id say no to lloyd but any chance on burleson being a cut if we land a better No 2? what are the cap implications of cutting him.

He's got a $4M cap hit right now and his dead money is also $4M, so if they cut him the dead money would be split between this year and next giving them $2M more in cap space this year.

I doubt they would cut him even if they do get another starter since Broyles may still need more time before he's able to play full time as the WR2 or WR3.

The Lions should be able to get another receiver if they feel they need one, without having to cut Burleson. Brandon Lloyd would be a step in the WRONG direction. Another case of good talent with a bad mind. The Lions need to waive Corey Fuller, than put him on the PS and hope he develops. His physical makeup is perfect for the #2 job. He may just need time to get into NFL shape and absorb the playbook.

Yeah I also say no to Lloyd.

I am very excited about the idea of them trying to acquire a starting caliber WR. Heard they are looking at Atlanta and Cincy as potential trade partners? Makes me wonder why all of a sudden they realize they need someone at the #2 spot not named Burleson, when we've been preaching it since before FA.

Could they get anything for trading Mikel Leshoure?

Probably because Burleson literally can't get open so far in pre-season. Talking to Cincy/Atlanta means Mohammed Sanu or Harry Douglas. I really like Sanu if it is him they want. He has a great body for the #2 spot and he's better than Burleson already. Douglas I'm not sure about. He's a poor and rich man's DHB.

Id like Sanu too, but I would be shocked if they were willing to part with him.

Id trade LeShoure in a heartbeat.

Maybe, but the rumor is Jerry Jones won't take Mayhew's calls any more.

How come we didn't get involved in that Jon Baldwin trade from K.C.? He had a lot of upside and I can't judge him based off his years in K.C. with that QB situation they had, it was horrible.
