Ted Cruz releases birth certificate

Sen. Ted Cruz released his birth certificate to the media Sunday, as the 2016 presidential contender faced increasing attention over his birth in Canada.

The Texas Republican shared his birth certificate with The Dallas Morning News. It shows his place of birth as Calgary, Alberta, to an American mother, which gave him American citizenship.

Canadian lawyers told the Morning News that Cruz’s birth in Canada also instantly conferred upon him Canadian citizenship, though a spokeswoman for Cruz said he was not aware of having dual citizenship.

“Sen. Cruz became a U.S. citizen at birth, and he never had to go through a naturalization process after birth to become a U.S. citizen,” Catherine Frazier told the Morning News. “To our knowledge, he never had Canadian citizenship, so there is nothing to renounce.”

Cruz is a tea party favorite and buzzed-about candidate for president in 2016, and he has been vocally calling on Republicans to shut down the government in an effort to defund Obamacare. He has faced scrutiny in recent weeks over his Canadian birth, though many experts have concluded Cruz qualifies as a natural-born citizen to run for president.

After President Barack Obama, who was born in Hawaii, faced continual attacks from so-called birthers, who claim the president was not born in the U.S., he released his own long-form birth certificate in 2011.

On Monday, Cruz said he was amused by the hubbub over his birth.

“A reporter asked for a copy of my birth certificate so we said, ‘Sure,’ and gave it to him,” Cruz said on the “Laura Ingraham Show” Monday morning. “I will admit I find the tizzy in the media a little bit amusing — the fact that the New York Times is this hysterical after my being in office only a few months.”

Cruz said he is a U.S. citizen, as is his mother, and he wouldn’t speculate about what it means for his running for office.

“I’m a citizen by birth. And those are the facts of my birth and I’ll let other people worry about the legal consequences,” Cruz said.

So, does he need to renounce his Canadian citizenship in order to run for POTUS? Perhaps he’s a closet socialist, being as he’s Canadian…

I have a question and I don't want to be a dead horse but the quote states that Obama was "born" in Hawaii, but was is a certificate of Life Birth, as compared to a birth Certificate?

A certificate of live birth is more an acknowledgment that a baby has been born, not an acknowledgment of where they were born.

That said, who cares if this guy was born in Canada, it's clear he's an American citizen. I have no clue if he has to denounce his Canadian citizenship prior to running for POTUS, but again, who cares? I don't question whether or not he's socialist because of where he was born, I look at who he surrounds himself with. Obama was surrounded by and brainwashed by socialist leaders for virtually his whole life, and, like it or not, he has shifted this country toward socialism, hugely increased the size of the Federal government, and expanded social entitlement programs in big ways.

WJB: I remember saying that during the run up to the elections. I endorsed Santorum on his personal character, and based upon whom he surrounded himself with. Our current President has gone so far as to surround himself with those who support his New Amerika agenda. One that is bigger government, socialist in design, and where the government has ultimate control and the people have none.

Having said that, Cruz has been a fire brand since he won the election, and I'd like to see a Cruz/Rubio ticket. I think that MIGHT be strong enough to take out Hilarious Clinton, but I'm not sure.

Honestly, people were so fed up after 8 years of Bush, they may just be ready for a real change. This administration has been horrible, and has done little to nothing that they promised. The economy is still sputtering along, and Obama Care is a joke. The Reps may win just on the ground that they're not Dems in the next election.

Remember Terminal Velocity! Obama has three years left, and he's put America on a path that we will NOT recover from. Not only is it Biblical, but it is unrecoverable. To think otherwise is a pipe dream. He's creating programs that are brain washing the next generations, and current un-educated masses into believing that Uncle Sam will take care of everything. Kissinger actually said that there will come a time where an enemy will be created that is of such grave concern that Americans will gladly trade in their rights for safety. I BADLY paraphrased that, but we're approaching that time. Obama is a puppet, dancing on someone else's string, and I would go so far as to say it's probably someone that runs in circles with the likes of the Soros's and their ilk. I've heard trilateral commission, and other conspiracy crap for a long time, but I believe there is some truth to it. He's not only inept as a leader, but spineless, and willfully focused on turning America into Amerika. The similarities to the Russia of the 80's is SCARY. Block captains, turn in your neighbor, government provisions, government health care, government employment, government this, government that, why can we not SEE THE FOREST?

Having gone off on that rant, I would like to see Cruz do something, but I believe with all my heart that we've reached the point of no return at the last election, and we're dead as a country and just don't know it yet. Fractures to our unity started in 2000 with Bush/Gore, it got progressively worse through the Bush years, especially with a liberal media ginning up the masses. Now Obumma has been in office and willfully instituted programs that are fine for those who are always willing to take, but suck for those who just want to be left alone so they can provide for their own and enjoy their lives.

Two things come to mind. Bread and Circus as proposed by the Roman Emperor, and a picture of a rowboat with the middle class tax payer rowing, the lesser class free loaders who have been conditioned to take all that's given are in the back. The more they take the more they want and heavier burden they become. With the leadership feeding them, at some point the back of the boat will take on water and we will sink. Those wealthy enough will be long gone from American shores.

Needless to say, I love Ted Cruz. He speaks the truth and will not bow down before the political establishment.

Since the majority of this board is ignorant, I ought to enlighten ya'll a bit. Ted Cruz was running in 3rd or 4th place in the Republican Texas Senate Primary when this insignificant, nobody, hick from Wasilla Alaska endorsed him. He immediately raced to the top of the polls and won.

Sarah who? :D

If you want to save this country, you need people like Ted Cruz to lead it.

Honesty, work ethic, personal responsibility, and accountability is the ticket.

But we all know that elections are won by whomever offers the most free stuff.

Sad but true.

Well ... I guess that's a new way to try to avoid people looking at your family pictures... lol... act crazy with concern about the "margins" in a thread & get the thread locked. Your political alliance is what is depicted in the pictures I posted in the other locked thread, Sly - that's what you represent, so just own it. That's not the media telling the story - that's a totally public forum, and your own people clearly articulating your story, Sly.

There is an entire spectrum on the left, just like the right ... from total government types (authoritarian) to total libertarian (individualists). The questions and strawmen you toss out there constantly about your political opponents aren't legitimate, in reality. I'm not sure if you're intentionally being dishonest. It occurred to me that you may just have a superficial understanding of politics and history, and simply don't know what you're talking about. That doesn't stop many people from trying to appeal to emotion and fear over actual fact and reason, in order to achieve their various sociopolitical objectives (like Palin, Bachman, or Cruz, for example). The act of spewing buzzwords and/or confidently posting doesn't mean you know what you're talking about or making sense. No matter how many times this silly "Obama has moved us in a socialist direction that we can never recover from" is repeated - it is still just plain complete nonsense.

What I'd personally like to see, is the Tea Party and the Religious Right fracture off from the Republican Party and join forces ... so the majority reasonable electorate could squash it all at once, and leave remaining a moderate libertarian classic Republican platform. Then the political discussion between the parties could be a meaningful and honest one about the right balance between taxing and spending and federal and state powers ... while the faux "true conservative" movement (angry, uneducated, bigoted, misogynist venom) can be relegated to the dustbin of history. Then people with my outlook can stop actively campaigning and voting against the Republicans for the sole purpose of marginalizing people with these extremist outlooks. The Tea Party and the Religious Right are like the Taliban of the U.S - and must be squashed.

I've said it before - but I'm pretty sure the conservatives of my father's day (e.g. Eisenhower and Goldwater) wouldn't even let the Tea Partiers into the tent. And were also on record re: the risk of giving political power to religious fanatics. Hate and bigotry shouldn't get a voice, as if they are legitimate opinions of equal weight. They are not.

Im sorry, but WHAT? How can you possibly make a comparison and expect to be taken seriously.

I dont even disagree with some of what you posted...but when you put something THAT rediculous, you lost me.

First your general google search of pictures doesnt represtent what you think it does. Any time you are see people gather in large numbers, a few are going to be idiots. some of the pictures in your google search represnt this. some didnt. When the search is specifically looking for (retardation) a specific flaw, and the whole picture doesnt repersent that in the examples, it screams "THERE IS MORE TO THE STORY THAT WHAT IS BEING PAINTED". Every Tea-Party enthusiast I know is a level headed, fair person who has never shown me any signs of racism. Do i know every single "party member"? No, but the ones that represent the area here make your pathetic attempt at stereotyping look similar to the ignorance that Al Sharpton represents.

everything you just accused sly of, you are guilty of by provings just a few links...then you follow it with that accusation and comparison on tea party and religeous right to the Taliban???

wow man....just wow

As an Agnostic Socially Liberal Fiscal Conservative I Feel completely unrepresented by both sides of our government system and have been for as long as I've been voting. It sucks. I Can see valid points from both sides of the argument, but despise at least 40-50% of what each party current stands for.
