 2014 1st / 2nd round needs
There was a lot of talk in the Packer game thread about what the Lions need, so I thought I'd start a new thread:
As things stand now, what positions should they take in the 1st and 2nd rounds?
Cornerback?
Center?
Receiver?
Linebacker?
Defensive End?
Offensive Tackle?

I'm thinking Cornerback and Wide Receiver. It would be nice to finally plug these holes with some legitimate first/second round talent. I guess we should also consider a Linebacker who can cover.

 Re: 2014 1st / 2nd round needs
I think it's way too early for this thread given how the Lions are in 1st place and only 1/4 of the way through the season. So much is going to change by the end of the season. But, here goes.
1st round: DE. I think Willy Young is only back this year on a 2 year deal. Not sure about that though. But, we need to get a nice young bookend for Ansah. If we have Young for 3 years, I would say ORT.
2nd round: If we take a DE in the 1st, this pick needs to be an ORT. Fox can't stay healthy. And Hilliard, while being solid, ( MOST of the time ). But, he had rough game against the Cardinals.
3rd round: C/RG Dom is a FA after this season. I think Rob Sims is also, ( if not, he is nearing FA/old age).
I expect at least 2 comp picks in the 3rd round for Avril and Gosder. Maybe more than that if SLH has a good season.
So, with 3rd round comp pick #1: C/RG whichever 1 we didn't take previously.
3rd round comp pick #2: OLB No explanation needed.
The remainder of our draft, with the exception of our comp picks should be used for trading up for select players. Or we can trade them for future picks.

Would the NFL really give us any 3rd round comp picks? That would be nice.

Billy the Lions signed Glover Quinn and Reggie Bush who are both playing at a high level, so the Lions will most likely see very little if anything in compensatory picks for Avril and Gosder.

 Re: 2014 1st / 2nd round needs
NEVER too early to talk NFL Draft.
My opinion as of right now is that the offense is our strength so lets keep it that way. I say WR, TE, or OT. I think we need a real #2 WR. Pettigrew is a FA but I think the from office is dumb enough to re-sign him...I really really like Austin Seferian-Jenkins out of Washington. Big body, great hands, great route runner and blocker.

Depends on how the draft falls but I'd like a LB or WR in the first and then a center.

 Re: 2014 1st / 2nd round needs
http://drafttek.com/2014-NFL-Draft-Pros ... -Draft.aspAs of right now they all appear to be late second and third round prospects. Also, there is no way we get a 3rd round comp. pick next year. We lost Avril, Cherilus, Durant(who may not qualify for the comp. formula) and Hill. We added Bush, Quinn and Jones. So if we get anything it'll be a 7th.

 Re: 2014 1st / 2nd round needs
After watching the Fudgies game, I'm thinking that we could really use another first rate wide receiver. This offense is dead without CJ and that means that even with CJ they need more help at that position.

WR. we can't continue to look so clueless without CJ. outside of him, we have the worst WR group in the game.

To many catch-able balls were not had against GB.

Where we will be drafting, Marquise Lee might be available.
