Penalties hurt, no doubt, but are extremely overrated.

The Ravens were the most penalized team in football last year. They won the Superbowl. The Raiders in the 80s built a dynasty on dirty play.

You can win with an aggressive, penalty-drawing team. What has really killed the Lions is not the penalties, but the turnovers. The Lion's turnover ratio is -13. If that was 0, the Lions would be 10-4 right now and everyone on this board would be expecting them to win their final two games.

It's more about the penalties that kill our offensive drives or extend the drives of the other team. Otherwise, I'm not too concerned about penalties.

If that was the only issue with the team was the penalties, it would be a completely different story. Combine the penalties, with their poor timing on the penalties, the screw ups and etc., then you have cause for this teams issues. All the problems this team has stems from poor discipline. Penalties is just one symptom of that disease.
