It's standard procedure around this time for NFL teams to sign young players to future/reserves contracts. The Lions locked up 10 players for the 2014 season on Tuesday.

Futures/reserve deals take effect the start of the new league year on March 11, when rosters are expanded to 90 players.

The team signed all seven members of their practice squad and also kickers John Potter and Giorgio Tavecchio and linebacker Jon Morgan.

The Lions will enter the offseason without a kicker under contract. David Akers played on a one-year deal in 2013 and finished 19 of 24 kicking field goals.

Tavecchio worked out for the Lions during the season. He was with the Green Bay Packers during training camp but was released when incumbent Mason Crosby won that job.

Potter, who grew up in Michigan (Grand Haven) and played collegiately at Western Michigan, was a seventh-round pick for the Buffalo Bills in 2012.

He was the Bills' kickoff specialist for the first six weeks of the 2012 season, but was released in November after losing the kickoff job to Rian Lindell.

Potter was with Washington early this season and converted 3 of 4 attempts, including both attempts vs. the Lions in Week 3.

Morgan was with the Lions in training camp this past year.
