Rumor has it the Lions are interested in Alterraun Verner. Along with several other teams but the Lions are one of them.

i think they should make a play for tj ward at safety, but pass on verner unless they plan to cut houston. apparently the lions think houston's horrific season was a fluke based on injuries and off the field issues. lions also think they can develop slay but should have a backup plan like rashean mathis on a 1 yr deal or maybe another lowpriced vet. DE opposite Ansah still a big need, whats the plan with Jason Jones? how is he recovering and is he projected to fit at dE or moving back inside in Teryl Austin's scheme?

I agree about TJ Ward. But isnt he more of a strong safety?

Quinn was a FS for Houston, so it wouldn't be a problem for him to flip sides. All the safeties currently on their roster seem to be able to flip sides if needed.

Verner is a hot name so I think he'll be priced out of our range. I'd be ok with Ward but not a huge contract.

What do you guys think about Michael Oher, Baltimore Ravens for RT? Waddle could move over and back up Reif and Hilliard could continue to back up RT. I think Waddle could play LG also if needed.

Lions free agency rumors: Detroit expected to sign wide receiver, safety

By Sean Yuille @SeanYuille on Mar 10 2014, 2:36p

The Detroit Lions are expected to address their needs at wide receiver and safety when free agency opens.

Free agency opens on Tuesday, but it's important to remember that not all needs have to be immediately addressed. Teams can wait until later in the offseason to fill holes on their roster with the draft, and they can always take a look at some of the lower-profile free agents who remain unsigned as the offseason progresses.

For the Detroit Lions, it's entirely possible that needs at positions like center, linebacker and cornerback won't be taken care of until the draft. They apparently do not have any interest in waiting around to address their needs at wide receiver and safety, though. Check out what Dave Birkett said on Monday:

Signing a wide receiver doesn't mean that the Lions won't still draft one, of course. Wide receiver needs more than one new addition this offseason, and they will have plenty of options at that position in the draft. Free agency is merely the first step in overhauling the wide receiver position.

At safety, the Lions are really only in the market for one new starter to take care of that need. There's good depth behind Glover Quin, but the Lions do need to fill the vacancy created by Louis Delmas' release. Instead of waiting until the draft, it appears that the Lions want to find their new starter now, so it's entirely possible that safety could be removed from their list of needs in the next few days.

The Lions already have a solid group with only center needing an addition right now. I think going out and spending money on Oher would be the equivalent of signing another starting level DT. It just doesn't seem like a good use of cap space unless he comes at an abnormally low price.

I wonder what Cromartie will end up costing. I doubt he'll come here but Mayhew tried to get him a while ago. Pretty damn good player

He will be 30 in April and lead the league in pass interference calls last year, had one less than all the Lions players combined! We are pretty undisciplined enough without him...
