49ers trade Eli Harold to Lions
Posted by Michael David Smith on August 23, 2018, 10:40 AM EDT

The 49ers have traded Harold to the Lions for a conditional 2020 draft pick, Kyle Meinke of MLive reports.

The 49ers took Harold in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft, and he has played in all 48 games over the three seasons since then. He started 10 games last year and was also in the starting lineup for both of the 49ers’ preseason games this year.

Harold had previously kneeled during the national anthem with teammates Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid, but he has been standing for the anthem this preseason. He declined to explain why when reporters asked him about that.

Probably wont make much of a difference on the defense, but should help with the awful containment we've seen in the preseason and has the possibility to add a little pass rush.

It appears as though he's being blackballed like Kaepernick. Don't you think?

Derailment: WAS Kaep blackballed??? I seem to remember him passing up a job opportunity with the broncos, and was going to be offered a spot with the ravens until his gf released a racist tweet against Ray Lewis and their owner the day they were going to offer him a contract. ( btw Lewis was lobbying for them to sign him BIG TIME). Then He sued the company. Has anyone ever been hired by a company they were currently suing? Like ever?

If that’s what you call blackballing, I don’t want to know what you’d call “ doing stupid poop that cost him a career”.

They were offering him peanuts when his play (whether people like it or not), was worth millions and millions. Then, he never got a call from t3ams like Houston who were signing turds like Tom Savage.

So, despite what happened, he was a hell of a better choice than a dozen other garbage starters or pretty much every backup in the league and never got a phone call after that. Of course, we haven’t heard his side of the story, only Elway’s. Also, Elway is kind of an idiot as a GM.

They didn’t offer him peanuts. Just less than he was making sitting on the bench, and deservedly so. He regressed, I don’t think that is even debatable. He wanted to capitalize on his bankroll with SF, and it bit him in the rear end. He wanted to be declared a starter and snubbed teams who said compete for it or take a backup role. That’s NOT being blackballed. From my perspective that’s putting your ego above reality. Funny how guys like Fitzpatrick accepted their role as he declined and kept working, but the guy who would only take a starter role and starter pay is somehow “blackballed”.

Offer a job by Denver- declined
About to be offered a job with the Ravens - shot himself in the foot ( or his gf did)
Refused to try out as a backup
Sued to company he “wants” to work for

Dude that’s not blackballed. That’s ego costing a career IMO

His final 2 years, he was 32nd and 31st ranked QB. They like to point out he was highest ranked during specific periods, but overall he sucked. It's why he was benched in 2015. Him sitting was about his benching. The story about him kneeling broke in August. It wasn't until October that he started adding "social justice" things to his social media posts, because he failed to give valid reasons for it outside of whining about being benched up until then. Teams recognized that. Just because the media spun a different story didn't make it true. If players were stupid enough to believe that hype, they're proving they aren't very smart and are easily manipulated.

Did any of them kneel for Trayvon? Did any of them kneel for Ferguson? Dallas? or any of the other shootings? Nope, they waited until Kaep got benched for sucky play. This entire event was a PR stunt. Teams didn't want to be involved with Tebow because of the media circus and everyone was fine with that. Suddenly they're shamed for not wanting part of Kaep's circus? His ego kept him off teams because he wanted starter money for backup play.

When Denver wanted to trade for him (he was not a FA at the time, they wanted to trade for him), they wanted him to take a 40% pay cut. Would you agree to a 40% pay cut for no real reason?

10 games with a QB rating over 80 on a horrendous team isn’t bad at all. You know his WRs had the highest drop rate in the league as well? He had like 4 offseason surgeries which clearly affected his play and his preparation, he had a garbage coaching staff who restrained the offense and made it so Jim Bob Cooter-esque, they were getting hammered so bad by bad teams. Sound familiar? Is Stafford garbage by comparison? How about how Sam Bradford was traded for a first round pick while only ranking 4 spots higher as a pocket passer? And Bradford had zero wheels and was making close to $1M more per year? By comparison, I’d be annoyed too.

Look, I didn’t like Kaep back when Hairball coached him up, but I don’t hate him for what he did. People need to take off their ‘Murica colored blinders every now and then.

Alas, why did y’all sidetrack a thread about a LB to Kaepernick???

speaking of derailing the thread and QBs - the Lions worked out former Broncos 1st-round pick QB Paxton Lynch today...
