 Lions hire Tollner
That's the report in the Free Press. As they put it, "Lions Settle on Tollner"

Great, more dink and dunk and no offense. Typical that Mooch wouldn't hire someone that could've been a potential threat to his job. Looks like another season of conservative play calling and mediorcraty

Has anyone actually been able to confirm this? I have looked around and everything I see is that MC Carthy is the leading candidate. It appears that only Curt Sylvester of the Free Press is the only one to announce/report this.

Would have prefered Olson or McCarthy

A look at the 49ers' 2004 offensive performance is not really encouraging... I think their main problem were weak players, but Tollner's coaching obviously wasn't brilliant either.
If Tollner is confirmed, I'm almost sure we will have Garcia to back-up (and maybe replace) Harrington next year. What do you think?

Of the the 3 canidates Mike McCarthy, Ted Tollner and Marc Trestman.
McCarthy is viewed as one of the league's bright young coaches seemed like a no brainer choice compared to the other two.
So instead the Lions got an old and conservative coach. Another Shem Lewis, nothing more than a Mooch "yes" man.
Way to go Mooch! No wonder you were chased out of San Fran.
My bet is Mooch never sees the 5th year of his contract.

If this is true (the hiring) then perhaps we all will get luck and see Mooch go when Millen leaves after next season. I really think that Mooch needs to prove himself this year or he could be in trouble. I'm not liking some of his decisions, but what the hell do I know..I'm just a fan of the mediocre Detroit Lions

I actually think despite some initial fumbling Millen has rebounded with some great FA signings and drafting...but its still fun to trash him

Some more info on Tollner hiring
Quote: Lions | Tollner Likely to be Hired as Offensive Coordinator - from www.KFFL.comWed, 26 Jan 2005 09:47:15 -0800 Curt Sylvester, of the Detroit Free Press, reports the Detroit Lions are expected to hire Ted Tollner as their new offensive coordinator, according to persons familiar with the situation. Tollner served as offensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers last season.
Slowly starting to see more info come out about this. I'm still not a happy camper.
Now appearing in Detroit: Mooch's Good Ole Boys

 Bad choice
Hey everyone, new to this board but a life long lions fan. I think this is a bad choice for the Lions and I was getting excited to finally see a playoff season, especially with all the talk about Moss leaving Minn and the Packers losing a lot of players to FA. I don't think this will happen with Tollner as the OC. I don't see why he won't run his "conservative offense" in Detroit. That's what he ran in SF because of a lack of talent, but as much as Mooch dislikes Joey, Tollner won't be confident in him and the play calling will be conservative...no deep passes and more running. Which I can deal with the running but not those damn 3 yard passes.
