Amen. And hopefully the ugliness of all this goes away.
I can see both sides but I think 15 years in a vegetative state is 15 too many for me personally

I totally agree. I would never want to be kept alive if I was in the state with no hope for improvement.

I hope I would never end up like that not just the vegtation state but think of her husband, and parents. That would be hard.

My family and I have had some "discussions" about it. My mom said should would fight to keep us alive. Noble as it may be I don't see the point. If the doctors and specialists and 2nd opinions comeback saying that I a merely existing on such a fundamental level then unplug me. Being a God fearing person I really do not get the religious rights massive response in all of this

I had to go through this with my mother. She was in a coma for three days after suffering a major heart attack. I had a brief argument with my father and brother because the doctors all agreed that she wasn't going to improve and would remain vegetative if she lived at all. It was only prolonging the inevitable to keep her alive on a ventilator and medication. Three days was difficult enough. Fifteen years is a terrible, diabolical tradgedy.

Sorry to hear that Mike, I can't imagine how that must have been.
Whether or not you agree with her tube beeing unplugged, this shouldn't have become the media frenzy that it was. All the sactamonious jerks who were on the news programs made me sick. I hope the parents and the husband are able to heal.

Thanks very much. It's been three and a half years since she passed, and I still think about it. I'll always think about it. The Shiavo family still has a long journey of healing ahead of them. The biggest obstacle will be for them to be able to forgive each other for what they've put themselves through. I find it appauling that there are some a**holes out there making death threats to her husband. They have no idea what it's like to watch a loved one just 'exist' for a period of time, and not truly 'live'.

All I know is i'm glad to see that it isn't going to be covering the news networks this entire time... I was at the point where I was getting sick of it.
