Tigers place RHP Bonderman on disabled list
May 16, 2007

BOSTON (TICKER) -- The Detroit Tigers on Wednesday placed righthander Jeremy Bonderman on the 15-day disabled list due to a blister on his right middle finger.

Bonderman last piched on May 8, when he allowed five runs, seven hits and two walks in six innings en route to a 9-7 win against Seattle. However, he felt a cut on his finger when he tried to throw off the mound Wednesday afternoon at Fenway Park.

The 24-year-old Bonderman, who won 14 games each of the last two seasons, was scheduled to start on Friday vs. the St. Louis Cardinals in the Tigers' first game of interleague play. In seven outings, he is 2-0 with a 4.20 ERA.

Bonderman will be replaced on the roster by 2006 first-round pick Andrew Miller, who is expected to be recalled from Class AA Erie on Friday. The 22-year-old lefthander, who will be making his first major league start against the Cardinals, allowed eight runs and nine hits in 10 1/3 innings of relief last season after joining the Tigers in late August.

Well, Andrew Miller was called up to pitch in his 1st start on Friday at St Louis. I'm excited to see how he will perform in 1st major league start.

Durbin has pitched fine his last 2 starts IMO. Where was that coming from?

His 4.67 ERA, that's where it's coming from. He threw a nice game against Boston and a stellar game against the White Sox. Other than those games, he's stunk.

I've got to give him the benefit of the doubt for now. First year in the league and he seems to get better each outing, you can't really ask for more than that.

Would you rather have Miner in his spot?

Heck no! Miner scares me. Durbin has been improving like you said and has looked good his last 3 starts.

On a side note : How about Andrew Miller!! This kid was lights out in his 1st career start and allowed no runs in 6 innings! We absolutely stole this kid. He will be something special.

Also, anyone else notice that Verlander is 4-0 in the month of May? We are beginning to roll

Speaking of lights out, what about Tim Brydak? 1.69 ERA through 3 outings and only 3 hits against him. He's a good story too, over 30 and basically a career minor-leaguer. I hope he keeps it up for his sake and for the team's sake.

King, I agree Brydak looks like a major league pitcher. Hopefully they will use him instead of Wilfredo. This guy really sucks. Jim Leyland could hit this guy.

Ledezma is decent, but nothing beyond average. Miller looks like a helluva good player. If he can reproduce what Verlander did last year, holy crap. It'll make up for Rogers heading out soon.

Unfortunately, Miller is only up until Bonderman comes back from his time off for the blister, which looks like he'll back either Thursday or Friday. But I'm pretty sure they add Miller on at the end of the year when the roster limits go from 25 to 40.

True. What I meant about Rogers was after this year. If Miller pitches well at the end of the season, I could see him cracking the starting rotation next season.

Maybe it'll be the end of Maroth? He's been worse than Durbin as of late. He's been torched for 13 ERs in 16.1 IP against the freakin' Royals! He's been getting crazy run support, which is why he's 3-0, but his record is a shame, he's should be 2-1.

Miner stinks as well.

Well CO2, looks like you may get your wish. Andrew Miller has been called up again, this time replacing Nate Robertson, who is listed as having a tired arm. He'll pitch Sunday against the Mets and next Saturday against the Phillies (a game i'll be at!)

Also, Zach miner has been placed on the DL w/ elbow tendinitis. 2 minor leaguers were called up to replace them. The injuries just keep on coming.

On a side note, we do lead the league in runs scored!

When is Rogers supposed to be back? Dood's been gone forever and we need him.

Also, is Zoom still on the DL? We've been using trash like Mesa and Seay because Zoom is apparently not good to go.

Rogers just threw a bullpen session and is set to pitch a game or 2 in Toledo, and if all goes well he will be back by the end of this month.

Zumaya was expected to be out 3 months, so he won't be back before August. Mesa is gone, so we no longer have to worry about his sky high ERA. Seay has actually been good his last few relief appearances.

Miller is set to start Sunday against the Mets and Glavine.
