seems like they have added a lot of players that werent with them in camp. considering almost half of the seasons practices happen during camp, it has to be tough getting guys up to speed

There will be more changes coming in the next few weeks. Players that refuse to buy in and continue complaining about having to work hard, are losers and we will never win with them. They will be traded for whatever is the best compensation we can get for them. Some may get cut because no one wants to give anything up for them. We know the Patriot way works. The players need to suck it up and get with the program, or get on the bus.

We do? We know it works in New England, I'll give you that - they have tried the "Patriot Way" elsewhere - name one other place it has been successful? Lets take a look at Bill Belichick former assistants Head Coaching record:

- Charlie Weiss: 41-49 (College)
- Romeo Crennel: 28-55
- Eric Mangini: 33-47
- Josh McDaniels: 11-17
- Bill O’Brien: 31-34
- Matt Patricia: 0-1

Six cases to date, not one with a winning record. Maybe the "Patriot Way" doesn't work without two things - Bill Belichick and Tom Brady!

Non of your examples except Matt Patricia consisted of a HC and a GM from the Patriots system. So, they were half hearted attempts.

LOL - so hiring a coach from the Billicheck coaching tree doesn't work so lets pile on a GM on top of that to be absolutely sure we suck!

The silver lining is no matter Quinn's faults, he has been good at managing the cap for the future. Unless he decides to throw caution to the wind and start signing bad deals, the Lions will be in a good position cap wise if things don't change and the FO/Coaches get canned in a few years.

in theory - yes work hard and get good results. as applied to this situation its a weak argument bc caldwell s teams gave a great effort each week. why cant patricia's? effort wasnt the problem before. caldwell's teams didnt come out and get blown away by a cream puff. that was as alarming of a performance as i have seen. that game was a gimme for the lions not to mention its a home opener, nationally televised on monday night - you cant get your team to play in that situation there is something majorly wrong. when in doubt, patricia is just running these guys in practice when they actually need to work on game plans and fundamentals and its just created doubt, resentment and a lack of preparedness.

quinn didnt sell this as the rebuild that patricia is pretending it is. this team wasnt 0-16 last season. i dont buy the arguments about culture, caldwell s teams were overachieving - what the lions really needed was someone who could make some better decisions at crucial moments on gamedays (plus a little talent on both lines) - not a burn down/rebuild which appears to be where this is headed. there most definitely is a culture problem now but guess what? - that problem isnt bc of Jim Caldwell or even Bob Quinn - its Patricia's creation, its on him.

patricia cut marquez which is understandable but he brought in two punters today - they are basically threatening sam martin that he could go next. instead of patricia altering his schemes to fit valuable players like robinson and zettel we see them sink to the bottom of the depth chart or off of it. its insanity but its patricia's way or the highway, he s not going to coach you up, he s not going to keep talent and alter his scheme around it. Patricia is basically sending the message that he s going to cut you and get someone who knows the system (most likely a patriot castaway) even though this is generally not the time of the year where talented players are readily available.

in a sense yes - if quinn and patricia are swept out in 3 or 4 painful years or even sooner it ll be a fresh start with a manageable cap situation. the problem i have with the statement though is that in itself will be a major reason of Quinn s downfall. Quinn is failing to use the cap in a way that maximizes talent on the roster despite not committing to a rebuild. The NFL salary cap is malleable - its not a hard cap. Recently the cap has been going up $10m per year and the contracts teams get players to sign dont have a lot of guaranteed money. Mayhew used to have better free agency harvests with less cap space. Some will argue that he put himself into cap hell the year he was fired but it was mostly bc the Lions were picking at the top before the rookie wage scale changed rather than Mayhew overdoing it with FA signings(stringing together a few poor drafts ultimately killed him). quinn has made some aggressive moves in FA but hasnt used it as a tool to really flip weaknesses into strengths but rather more to maintain talent level. Calvin Johnson retired and he replaced him with Marvin Jones, Warford and Reiff were hitting FA and he got Lang and Wagner (improvements on paper but basically a wash so far). moves like Johnson Bademosi and DeShawn Shead where Quinn is overpaying but for less desired talent are less risky than going for better players at pricier deals but are still wasteful.

Agree with everything you say those two posts Legend - spot on - with the possible exception of the revamped right side of the Oline being a wash. Seems like a lot of money for a downgrade to me, with Reif and Warford performing well in their new homes.

Yeah, Lang has been pretty much a huge bust. I knew he was a risk and overpaid for what he brought, but damn. He’s regressed even when he has played.
