Can Dan Be the Man?
The Detroit Lions and new head coach Rod Marinelli will have the unenviable
task of entering the 2006 season with either journeyman Jon Kitna or Arizona
Cardinals free agent Josh McCown starting at quarterback. One or both of them
may serve as a sufficient stop-gap, but what about the future? The best hope
for the Detroit Lions is Dan Orlovsky, a 2005 fifth round pick out of the University
of Connecticut. Going to war in the NFL with a second day or undrafted
quarterback is relatively commonplace. Assuming that Jon Kitna wins the
quarterback battle in Detroit, eleven out of thirty two NFL teams will begin
the 2006 season with a second day or undrafted quarterback lining up under center.
Guest Columnist Nathan Forster compares the Lions' Dan Orlovsky with some successful
mid-round quarterback draft picks.

Backus Signs, Future Still in Doubt
The Detroit Lions and left tackle Jeff Backus finally came to an agreement
on Monday as Backus signed a one-year qualifying offer for the 2006 season.
Because Backus, 28, was designated as the teams non-exclusive franchise
player on February 23.

Harrington Trade - Done Deal
So what is value of a player taken with the number three overall pick in
2002? Not much when you consider he has been chewed up and spit out after
spending the better part of the last four seasons as the starting
quarterback for a pitiful Detroit Lions squad.

Ernie Sims: Top Ten Worthy?
When the Detroit Lions selected Ernie Sims with the ninth overall pick in the
draft most fans knew little of the linebacker from Florida State other that a few
quick quips on the draft coverage and the praise showered on him by the organization.

Lions 2006 Draft A Pick by Pick Review
This draft will forever be attached with the "what if" caveat for Lions
fans. What if the Lions had selected either Matt Leinart or Jay Cutler? What
if the Lions had accepted a trade offer from the Denver Broncos and gained a
high third round pick to move down six spots in the first round?
