GAME REVIEW
The Lions beat the unbeaten Falcons and improved to 2-0 on the road this season. The Lions, with the victory, also began to win
some respect in the NFL. Despite losing rookie-of-the-year candidate Roy Williams with an ankle injury, the Lions fought hard
throughout and earned their most impressive victory of the season.
Atlanta scored first on a strange set of events. The Falcons punted to the Lions but had a penalty and Steve Mariucci decided to
for the Falcons to punt again. This time, the Falcons turned to a fake and picked up a first down on a pass. Later in the drive the
team converted a first down. Eventually, Warrick Dunn punched it in to put the Falcons ahead.
The Lions responded positively. On their next possession the team drove down the field and on a fourth down Harrington found Hakim
who scrambled 39 yards to tie the score. On Atlanta's next possession, Vick threw an interception and the Lions capitalized by scoring
their first rushing touchdown of the year and taking a 14-7 lead into halftime.
Each team could only muster a field goal in the second half as the defenses played well. Detroit's defense forced Michael Vick into
a fumble on the last play of the game and the Lions move to 3-1. The Falcons failed in their attempt to go 5-0 for the first time in
franchise history. The Lions, after setting the NFL road losing streak record at 24 games, have won both of their road games so far
this season.
