I went to the theatre twice this week. And at $8 / person and $25 for pop and candy; I thought maybe we could post reviews, opinions and comments about movies - good or bad - in hopes of helping each other decide where to spend their money.

I was lucky enough to see a great movie and unfortunately a disappointing one and I wanted to share my thoughts.

'The Greatest Game Ever Played' was outstanding! A Disney feel good movie about golf at the turn of the century. It's a true story, and based on the research I've done since seeing it, follows the history VERY accurately. No one in it is a big acting name but they did an excellent job none the less.

You could hate the game of golf and love this true story of Francis Ouimet, a poor boy and caddy, who grows up to face his idol, Harry Vardon in the US Open. Vardon, the champion of the times (1913) was also once poor and both struggle to overcome the class prejudice of the day.

I give it "two thumbs up".

On the other hand I saw 'Elizabethtown' and wish I hadn't. This movie started off slow and fizzled out all together. The acting by Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst was good given a storyline that could have been good but went nowhere fast.

Bloom causes a tennis shoe company to lose $1 Billion then learns his Dad has died of a heart attack while he was visiting family in Kentucky. Bloom meets Dunst while flying there to retrieve his Dads body and meets family he didn't know he had. While falling for Dust he realises life goes on. And on and on and on.

Keep your money! thumbsdown

What I do want to know is has anyone seen Two for the Money yet and is it any good?

I saw Prime because it looked like it was going to be really funny and I liked the idea.

It's about a recently divorced woman (Uma Thurman) who's 37 and meets and falls for a younger guy (23) and as it turns out is her therapist's son. The therapist is Myrill Streep who wants her Jewish son to be with a Jewish girl and someone his own age, but doesn't let on as she listens to Thurman.

It's a great idea for a movie but it was more touching than realistic and more dramatic than funny. It had a few cute parts and was well acted but was not really what I was expecting.

I give it 3 out of 5 Bubbles.

Has anyone seen Two for the Money or Domino yet and are they any good?

Checked out Saw II on Friday. If you liked the first one (as I did) you will like the second one as they did not disappoint.

LF-Ak

I liked the first one too and I want to see the second one. But I have to wait for those types to come to blockbuster because no one in the house is going to go see those with me. Sad

(wimps)

I did see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire last night. I have to say it was very well done. A little long - 2hrs 40 mins - and there was a few spots where it dragged, but overall it was very good.

The kids will love it - the action, special effects and storyline are all outstanding. This installment in the series is a little like a 'who done it' and it has a little more blood than the others - but nothing to over the top and certainly nothing they haven't seen before.

It's not like I'm a huge Harry Potter fan but it's 'must see' for the kids with a great message and the adults will get sucked right into it.

OMG!!

Go see Derailed!

Derailed is NOT a Jennifer Aniston romantic comedy chick flick. This is a suspence drama with intrigue and twists that you would have never imagined.

I don't want to give anything away but - guy and girl meet and begin an affair. Their hotel room gets broken into and ALL hell breaks lose in their lives.

Good acting by Clive Owen and Aniston. Great story line - Very believable even. Terrific ending.

Really a must see if you like suspense / drama / action.

Two Thumbs Up!!

I saw WALK THE LINE which was a very good movie. I don't want to give much away so I won't. Go see it. Whether you like Johnny Cash or not, it's a damn good movie.

I just saw The Dead Poets Society on On Demand earlier today. It was the first time I ever saw it. I thought it was an excellent movie, but very sad in the end. I recommend it to everyone, because it really had a deep impact on me.

Saw Narnia. I was underwhelmed. It was a decent movie, and worth the money, but it wasn't nearly as deep as I had hoped it to be. I hoped that the "spirtual" scene would give me more to think about, but it was lame, IMO and went by too quickly. The whole movie was predictible, not just from having read the book, though that was quite a while ago, but I was rarely surprised by anything. There some filmaking cliches, and the director never really took any chances to make a scene really hard hitting. A review I read called it "Lord of the Rings Lite", and that seems to be the case. There were some good scenes though, the acting was very good, and the cimenmatography(sp) was amazing.

3 out of 5.
